Galactica: The End Is Near

Posted by thoughtful1 on May 11, 2007

Just read here that next season will be the last for Battlestar Galactica. I’m not that emotionally wrecked by it – not nearly as bummed out as I was when Buffy and Angel ended. But that’s because this show isn’t structure well for an open ended narrative, which is the problem with American TV. No one makes a multi-season closed narrative show that has a definite ending, and then it ends when it is supposed to.ย  (Well, Babylon 5 may be the exception. I’ve heard it was totally planned out from the get go, but I never watched it.)

At least now I know the producers and writers can plan the show’s last season and finale properly. And, perhaps by fitting all the remaining items they wanted to, we won’t have any “quality lulls” in the middle. (There were a few eps that were clunkers this past season.)

And now I can start saving up to buy the entire DVD set ๐Ÿ™‚

I know, that was kind of a heartbreaker for me too. Especially since they’re making us wait so long for Season 4 to open! At least we’ll have the direct-to-video movie, though. Have you heard much about what the plot for that will entail? I have only heard it has something to do with Pegasus.

  2. I don’t like having to wait until January, either! Hrumph. As for the movie, all I’ve heard is that it will focus on the Pegasus. I think the writers and producer had more storylines than they could fit into the show, so they’re making this movie. It should be interesting… Maybe we’ll find out if Admiral Cain really did shoot her former XO just because he disagreed with her.

I’m not the betting type, but I’d totally put money on it that she did.

  4. Me, too. I totally buy that she shot/abandoned a bunch of civilians just because they wouldn’t cooperate with whatever she was trying to do….. Obviously, I’m a little cloudy on that plot point ๐Ÿ˜‰ But I think it went something like she wanted a bunch of civilians to do something, they didn’t want to go along, so to retaliate she shot their families.

    She was scary.

I think some of it may be that without a civilian fleet to protect, and kick-ass Secretary of Education turned President to pester her along the way, Cain and her crew lost their humanity. They went into survival mode and stayed that way 24/7, and it killed their souls.
