A nice day for staying home

Posted by thoughtful1 on April 15, 2007

It’s a nice day to stay home – it’s cold and wet outside. But I went to church anyway. I had a plan for the day: go to church, go to the mall and eat junk food at Johnny Rockets, order a pair of glasses. Now that I’ve done all that, I’m home. I tossed the sheets in the washer, and now I’m just checking e-mail, etc. Not sure what to do next – maybe read King Lear? I haven’t read or seen the play, and I’m currently reading A Thousand Acres, which is a 20th century King Lear in the heartland. I’m sure I will miss a bazillion references because I never studied the original Shakespeare play.

Speaking of things related to Merry Olde England, I caught an episode of The Tudors on Showtime last night. I got the Comcast DVR yesterday, and for some reason when you changed your service like that you end up getting all channels for a day or two. So, bonus! Anyway, interesting show. I’ll have to rent the DVDs when they come out. Last night’s ep showed Henry sabotaging a treaty with France and having a dalliance with Anne Boleyn’s sister. At the end, Mr. Boleyn (he has a title – can’t remember what it is, tho) essentially pimps out Anne to the king. Or at least tells Anne he wants to pimp her out and that since Henry has lost interest in her sister it’s now up to Anne to catch the king’s eye and keep his interest. All in the name of preserving the Boleyn family’s fortunes.

Ick.

Makes me glad I was born after the Middle Ages. Or the Victorian Age, when a woman had to get married in order to ensure she’d have a home.

Ick.  Ick.  Ick.
